History and Dj profile
In 1983,
as young seventh graders John Isaac and Del Tatad met. Among many things,
it was music that brought their long partnership together. In 1988 "Social
System" was born. "Social System" derived from both John
and Del's idea that they can be the tool to create a mood for socializing.
They started out by providing music for friends and relatives in weddings
and small parties using their home stereo
system. Both
John and Del's music interest grew. Both of different taste; therefore,
creating variations in their collection. Today, they own close to 9,000
records and 1500 CDs of different types of music from the 50's to the present.
Dj
Caasi (John Isaac) has had an innate love for music. Frustrated in not
knowing how to play any instrument he turned to mixing. Seeing Cameron
Paul mix at a club called "Studio West", John became more inspired.
This became an influential
factor to John's Dj venture.
In 1985, "New Wave" and "Italo Disco" became his obsession and started to collect 12" records of each type. As years went on, his maturity in listening and appreciating enabled him to broaden his musical selections. In the early 90's John joined the "Rave" scene and became very intrested by the atmosphere it brings. Techno music and the whole rave scene became his primary interest. At the same time John's friends from Manila slowly introduced him to music from Manila in which he was amazed of all the nice tunes that seldom reach the states.
Today, John's obssessions are "Lounge/Bossa" and "Club-pop". These two types of music have a little similarity. Lounge and Bossa Nova comes from the 1950/60's and Club Pop is the hottest thing on Germany and Japan. An upbeat music with a lot of silly samples from the lounge era and beyond. With all these musical backround he is currently working on soundtracks for clothing stores and restaurants; using music to create the image and atmosphere that the store wants to reflect.
Dj Caasi's Mascara Mix won in the Dec. 00 issue of Urb Magazine.
Everytime John has some time to spare you will find him at a record store looking for something new. His dream is to become a trend setter and influence people with the best music the world can offer.
Although
influenced by John, Dj Del Tatad has an inborn talent for mixing. It was
even more enhanced by practicing everyday. Idolizing Cameron Paul, Del
learned and imitated his style. Del used to watch Dj
battles between Jazzy Jim and
Q-bert. This
set high standards for Del in mixing. His music collection varies from
love songs,
jazz, high
energy and what is now known as "Old
School." In addition to Del's love for music he also is diversely
talented in playing instruments. He plays a little bit of everything -
piano, drums and guitar.
In mixing, Del specializes in remaking any song to a dancable tune. He tries to put a little spice to songs to vary the sound. Together with John, Del was also influenced in the early nineties by the energy of the Rave scene.
As a DJ, Del's enjoyment is making the crowd feel at home. With the music he creates he wishes to make the people leave everything including their shyness at home and be ready to party down.
Del dreams of running his own radio station and be able to project his style and taste in music to the people.
